This qualification is based on the HSE training standard for delivery of First Aid at Work courses for the purpose of the Health & Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981.

The qualification consists of two units. Emergency First Aid in the Workplace as well as Recognition & Management of illness & injury in the Workplace.

On successful completion of the qualification, the learner will have attained the knowledge and skills to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations in the Workplace.

The three day course covers the following topics:

  • Assessing an incident
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation – CPR
  • Basic AED use
  • Recovery position
  • Heart attack
  • Choking
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Shock
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Wounds & catastrophic bleeding
  • Head & spinal injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Sprains, strains & dislocations
  • Fractures
  • Burns & scalds
  • Minor injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Eye injuries

Delegates will be required to have reasonable level of fitness and be able to perform ground based practical assessments during the course. A reasonable understanding of English will be required as there will be two multiple choice question papers during the course that form part of the assessment process. Candidates are advised to notify Skillset First Aid prior to the course, of any individual learning needs.

On successful completion learners will be issued with a First Aid at Work Certificate valid for 3years. Annual refresher training is recommended.
